this week at Bentley.....

It’s been another super week of learning here at Bentley!  Here are the highlights from each class…

Year R – have enjoyed learning about the Nativity and making crowns in art.

Year 1 – have been programming Beebots to solve problems in their computing lessons.

Year 2 – became news reporters to create news interviews in English.

Year 3 – have enjoyed learning how to round numbers in mathematics.

Year 4 – found out all about World War 1 to write descriptions of the battlefield.

Year 5 – have been learning about space in their science lessons ahead of their visit to the Planetarium next week

Year 6 – got into role as giants from traditional fairytales to write some giant descriptions!

Thank you to everyone who visited the Scholastic Book Fair this week.  Any purchases made will benefit our school library as we can put our rewards towards buying some lovely new books.  If you didn’t get chance to buy a book but your child has made a wish list after visiting the fair, you can still contribute to funds for the school by buying the book from the Scholastic website and adding our school details.

Thank you too to everyone who donated to our poppy appeal.  The school raised an amazing £312.11.

Next Friday, 24th November, will be a non-school uniform day in exchange for bringing in a contribution to the raffle hampers for the Christmas Fair e.g. a pamper product, gourmet treats, chocolates, sweets, a bottle of something nice to drink, a game.  Think about what you or your child would like to be in a raffle prize and that would be an ideal gift to send in.  Thank you in advance.

Eco update

Back on the Rack

This weekend is your last opportunity to sort out your children’s wardrobes ready for Back on the Rack.  We urgently need your unwanted, pre-loved winter clothes for the Young ACAN Back on the Rack.  We would especially love Christmas jumpers, winter coats and warm jumpers as well as cosy pyjamas, hats, gloves and scarves and party wear!  We ask that the clothes are clean and in good condition please. This event is being organised by Young ACAN in partnership with its partner schools, including Bentley. The drop-off point is in the giant box in the dining hall.

Cut your Carbon

The response to this Eco Schools initiative has been fantastic and I have already heard of brilliant carbon-cutting actions that the children have been participating in, including planning flight-free holidays, ditching the car and trying meat-free meals!  Please keep going throughout November.  Eco Council will be collating the data on December 1st to send off to Eco Schools to give us a ‘score’ for the amount of carbon our school community has saved in November.  Hopefully, you will notice that saving carbon also saves money too!
