this week at Bentley.....

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in school, with the Christmas decorations up, final rehearsals and costumes being tried on for our two plays, and lots of carol singing in preparation for our church service at St. Mary’s at the end of term.  Thank you for all your support so far with costumes and learning lines.

The Christmas post box will be back in the office from Monday 4th December for children to post Christmas cards to their friends if they would like to.  Please be mindful that we have children with serious food allergies in school and avoid adding a festive treat to the cards.  The last day for Christmas post will be Wednesday 13th December.

Today, we are all feeling extra excited as we eagerly anticipate our Christmas Fair after school.  A big thank you to our PTFA chairs - Sarah C, Sarah F and Molly, for coordinating the event and to all the PTFA reps who have ably assisted them.  Thank you also to all of you for your generous donations and supporting the school through either helping out or attending the fair.  The fair is open to all family, friends, neighbours and local people and I look forward to seeing lots of you there this afternoon – it’s going to be a lot of festive family fun!

Mrs Miffling

Acting Headteacher

 to…

Miss Oakley for completing all her Girl Guiding leader training to become a fully qualified leader for Brownies.  Miss Oakley has been working towards this qualification over the last few years, showing true commitment to Girl Guiding and her Brownie pack.  Well done Miss Oakley – we are all very proud of you!

Parking

Parking is an on-going issue. We ask all drivers again, please do not park or stop your car on the yellow zigzag lines, or the double yellow lines surrounding the school; even if this is to drop off or pick up children.  These lines are there to keep all our children and families safe as they start and finish school. Road visibility is significantly reduced if cars are parked there and this is dangerous.  Recently, it has also been difficult for the school minibus to exit the school car park safely.  Stopping on these lines during the times posted on the yellow signs outside of school is not only inconsiderate, it is also a road traffic offence and you could be fined for doing so.

Eco update

Blue Peter Green Badge Success

Last year Eco Council and Nature Reserve Club chose to write to Blue Peter to share all their great eco work at Bentley. We received a lovely letter from the Editor of the show who requested the children to write in individually to receive their Green Badge. I am delighted to announce that Neve in Year 4 is now the proud owner of a fantastic Green Badge for her contribution to Eco Council and the Nature Reserve Club last year. Well done, Neve!

Back on the Rack

Thank you to those who donated clothing for the Young ACAN Back on the Rack clothes swap, which took place last Friday at Alton Maltings. It was lovely to have Kate, Archie and Tristan, some of our fabulous ex-pupils volunteering at the event. They helped to raise £100.00 for Young ACAN and to save a staggering 13,000kg of carbon by recycling 50kg of clothing.

Forest Explorers

Thank you to Pablo in Year 6 for kindly donating a camo net for den-building at Forest Explorers. It will be well-used during our weekly sessions in the woods.

Eco Schools Update

Eco Council met this week and have started discussing their three projects for the award. Our chosen topics are waste, energy and marine – more details to come after Christmas.

New club next term – Wild Adventures Forest School
