This week at Bentley...

I hope that you have had a lovely break over the Easter holiday. I know that staff and pupils have returned to school refreshed and full of energy – full of the joy of spring! Teachers have been impressed by how engaged and focussed children have been and we are excited about the plans for the term ahead. Teachers have written a short update about the term ahead with curriculum details and any changes to PE days and some save the dates for school visits etc.

Click the link below for your child’s class to make sure that you know what is happening this term:

Year R      -      Year 1      -      Year 2      -      Year 3      -      Year 4      -      Year 5      -      Year 6

Miss Wiggins would like to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who took part in the obstacle race games yesterday afternoon and who baked or bought cakes. Despite a somewhat grey sky, the rain held off, a lot of fun was had and we raised £341.60 for Get Kids Going, a super national charity which gives disabled children and young people - up to the age of 26 yrs - the wonderful opportunity of participating in sport.

We all wish Miss Wiggins good luck for the marathon on Sunday! Her fundraising page is still open if you would like to make a donation – please click here.

Governors have started to undertake a full review of the school’s vision and values which will be completed in the autumn term. This is, of course, a very important piece of work and this will set the strategic plan for our Church of England Primary School for the next five years and beyond. A working group met yesterday and we now plan to gather information, views and ideas from across our school community. If you are happy to take part in a parents and carers feedback group please click here.

As ever, all the details of what is happening next week can be found by clicking here.

Have a good weekend,

Mrs Katy Pinchess, Headteacher

Summer Term Reminders

  • Children are welcome to wear summer uniform but this is not compulsory.
  • It is still important that children have a waterproof coat with a hood EVERYDAY. We recommend a lightweight pack-a-mac if possible rather than a heavy winter coat.
  • Please ensure that your child has a sun hat and is wearing suntan lotion as appropriate. Staff are not able to ensure that this is reapplied during the school day and we recommend an all- day brand which is applied just before children come to school.
  • We now have a bin for recycling clothes and we are keen to support our ECO drive so please do bag up and post in your donations. Pupils will earn 10 house points for every bag donated.

Clubs

Clubs start next week and providers have been given the final date of the term for 12th July so ensure that childcare provision is in place for the last week of term. Due to running individual piano lessons Mark runs a slightly shorter schedule due to the residential visits but be aware that other clubs are not able to flex week by week and there are no make-up weeks.

Charity Update from the Easter Service Collection

Thank you so much to everyone who kindly donated towards the Oxfam response to Cyclone Idai. Our much-needed donation totalled £302.07 which has gone to support the charity work. This charity was chosen by our pupils who were aware of the terrible issues in Africa last term.

The devastation caused by Cyclone Idai becomes clearer each day. Across Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe, around three million people are affected. But despite some of the most challenging conditions imaginable, help is getting through. Oxfam is aiming to reach 500,000 people with clean water, toilet and handwashing facilities, food, shelter and other essentials.

Staff News

We are pleased announce a that Ms Adelle Newman will be joining the Bentley Team next week in Year R. Adelle is an LSA who will be working alongside Miss Smith and Mrs Peters in the Year R team. She brings great previous experience and skills to the role and cannot wait to start work here. The Governor Personnel Committee was delighted by her application which was one in a very strong field and very impressed with her interview and we look forward to welcoming her into the school community. Year R families will get to meet her on Tuesday 7th May and I know that you will help her to settle in quickly.
