This week at Bentley...
The weather has been rather changeable this week, so a big thank you to home for sending in coats with hoods every day – please keep sending them in no matter the weather in the morning. On a positive note the children have been delighted to watch the Bentley pond replenish!
We had a terrific day on Wednesday celebrating French around the world. Thank you for supporting our young linguists to celebrate learning another language with the super colours and costumes they were wearing. They looked terrific! Click here for more details and pictures from the day.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for the two sessions to ‘Help your Junior aged child with maths’. Another 39 family members took part, and again the feedback has been really positive. Mrs Rushin has added some Place Value sheets to the spinner as a couple of parents requested these. The Bentley Calculation Policy is available for you by clicking here. As ever, please direct any questions about your child’s work to the teacher in the first instance – we want to help.
In other news...
Year R’s highlights were all around settling into school life. This week they enjoyed getting to know the older children. They went on the apple picking walk with Year 6 and loved playing with their Year 5 buddies. Lots of fun!
Year 1 thoroughly enjoyed creating some amazing art designs using a multimedia approach on the computer AND paint.
Year 2’s minds were reeling from fact finding about Madagascar. Did you know that should the island of Madagascar be wiped out we would be losing an immense amount of bio diversity? Ask your young naturalists all about it at home!
Year 3 have enjoyed the wonderful story of Ram and Sita. This helped them to understand why Hindus celebrate Diwali.
Year 4 have enjoyed the patterns and systems of rounding up in 10s, 100s and 1000s. I wish our bank balances would do the same…
Year 5 revelled in stretching their understanding of Roman Numerals – challenge them to see if they can remember how to write them up to a million!
Year 6 also had some WOW moments in their science investigations as they learnt about angles of ‘incidence and reflection’.

We look forward to seeing you all back on Tuesday when children are encouraged to wear their house colours. We are not taking part in any sports activities so it is t-shirt only with normal school uniform. No logos other than the Bentley archer, so please turn any non-uniform t-shirts inside out if required.

Christmas Cards
We know it’s still September, but Christmas is only 89 sleeps away! The children have been busy designing beautiful cards for you to buy if you wish. You are welcome to come into class at 3.15pm on Tuesday 1st October or 8.30am on Thursday 3rd October to look at their super artwork and place your order. We are unable to take card payments, so please bring cash or your chequebook.

We were all very pleased to congratulate Mrs P on a wonderful 25 years in education here in Hampshire (for those who have not met this special member of staff she is our super Year 2 LSA, also the Lead Lunchtime Supervisor AND our Afterschool club Leader – a very busy lady!). Wendy has worked in three different schools and her passion, enthusiasm and child centeredness are renowned. She has been invited to a very special celebration next week in Winchester and we look forward to hearing all about it. Well done!
We have also had some great news about George in Year 3. Firstly he has been selected as one of 150 children from the 1400 who applied to the Royal Ballet School Associates Scheme this year all over the UK. Secondly, he has now been selected from this group to be one of 8 children who will perform in Sleeping Beauty this winter season at the Covent Garden Opera house. WOW! Go George!
His family are delighted and his mum Eliza says, “Very exciting for George and I am also so pleased for his AMAZING and WONDERFUL teacher Lucy Lawrence who has taught him from the beginning in Bentley Village Hall. She deserves real accolade as she is, like many of us, teaching, nurturing and encouraging children forward in sport from a grassroots level. She, herself a former ballet dancer, spotted George's potential, nurtured, developed and encouraged him and it is purely her influence which has created the opportunity for him to shine. Also thank you to the ethos of the school in encouraging all children to get involved and try something new”.
It is going to be a lot of hard work ahead and we wish George all the very best as we all love seeing him perform. She runs a class here on a Thursday morning as well as the classes at the village hall.
