In school this week…

Year R have made wonderful puppet shows to share the story of Owl Babies

Year 1 have written brilliant descriptions about dinosaurs (using expanded noun phrases!)

Year 2 have thoroughly enjoyed their statistics week with pictograms and tally charts galore!

Year 3 made wonderful Iron Age creations in their Design Technology work both at home and school

Year 4 Read and wrote immensely silly and enjoyable poems. From limericks to nonsense poems it has been a lot of fun!

Year 5 have excelled in their debates all week, based on their reading about King Kong and some very impassioned speeches have been made by our young orators.

Year 6 really enjoyed their ‘Field trips’ out of the house and into the garden, woods and local green areas. They used classification tables to identify a wide range of organisms. (Hopefully all with hats and gloves on in the very cold temperature outdoors this week!).

Thank you….

…to all of you for your very kind words and positive feedback to staff over the Parents Evening phone calls. It was brilliant to get your perspectives from home and discuss pupils’ learning and progress over the last term. Your time keeping and prompt phone answering were also much appreciated by our teachers, who worked across four evenings, rather than two, to ensure that every family received a call. We just have two appointments left to complete across the whole school, which is a phenomenal credit to Bentley Parent-School partnership.

…for REALLY spoiling the staff this week.  We all really appreciated the delicious chocolate hamper from the Scotton family, the beautiful sweetie hamper from the Wellstead family, the box of yummy chocolate treats from the Wolfe family and the really tasty muffins baked by Charlie and his sister.  We also had yummy shortbread from the Edwards family and a box of yummy biscuits from a Year R family (sorry, Miss Pidden could not remember who gifted these but a big thank you!). Individual staff also received cards and gifts to say a big thank you for all their hard work, which were very much appreciated. There were lots of smiling faces in the staff room this week!

PARENT Talk

We are keen to continue our ‘Parent Talk’ slot after half term.  Please get in touch if you, or another family member, have an interesting job experience or hobby to talk about to the children. We love hearing from our community and it is great for the children to hear about the world and different jobs.

Safer Internet Day

This week has been Safer Internet Week. This is very much a subject for ongoing Computing lessons rather than a once a year mention and it is a key part of our safeguarding work with your children. We shared some useful video clips by email earlier this week to watch at home with your child.  Here they are again if you missed them.

World Book Day

This year World Book Day will be held on Thursday 4th March.  Even though the children are working from home, we will be marking the occasion and wanted to let you know in advance some of the activities we have planned so everyone can join in the fun.

• Dress up as your favourite book character for your morning Zoom meeting on Thursday 4th March. 
• There will be some book themed activities set on Seesaw on World Book Day.
• A special book themed collective worship at 11.30 on Thursday 4th March.
• Recreate a book cover (draw, colour, paint or be as adventurous as you would like) and display it in your window during the week beginning Monday 1st March.  Children can then spot the book covers when they go on their daily exercise that week.
• Take some photos of your children reading in unusual places and send them into school via Seesaw during the week beginning Monday 1st March so we can create a collage of photos.
• Using a platform such as FaceTime, WhatsApp or Zoom, read or share a book with a member of your family who doesn’t live with you.
• Make a book recommendation to a friend.

Each year we are wowed by the creativity of the children's costumes and we love finding out who their current favourite authors are, and which are their all-time favourite picture books.  We are really looking forward to seeing what this year's event brings!

Ever wondered how our School is Funded? 

Join us for an hour on Thursday 11th March from 8:30pm on Zoom for this School Governor led event. 

James, Laura and Paul will be online talking about how school funding works, why funding for our school is under pressure, National and Regional figures on primary school admissions and how this affects our funding, along with ways you can help.

An exciting, interactive evening is guaranteed! Pop the date in your diary and details of how to log in will be emailed prior to the event.

PTFA Quiz night – save the date

Spring Term would usually see the PTFA host their grown-ups only quiz at school, complete with silly games, a pudding auction and some rather hard questions from Mr Goddard (not to mention lots of wine and laughter).  As we are not able to be together in person this year, Year 4 will be hosting a virtual quiz and we would love you to join us.   Please save the date for Thursday 4th March at 8.00pm - more details will follow after half term.

 

School shoes and trainers sale

It's been a while since the children wore their school shoes - has your child has grown out of theirs?  What about their trainers or wellies?  If they are now too small but still have plenty of wear left in them, please consider donating them to school.  Our super PTFA Chair, Kathleen, will be organising a sale after half term so please keep them safe and we will give you details of how to donate them shortly.
