This week at Bentley...

It has been another busy week at school and it is now that time of year when the weeks seem to speed up! It has been great to see our pupils really enjoying their learning and today in School Council, the children were full of excitement about our Bentley activities and all summer term topics.

Another joy this week was having Yann and Gemma back from St Mary’s church to worship on site with us. I am sure that many children will remember our vicar being dressed as a pirate for many years to come! His ‘pirate dialect’ was Oscar worthy and the enthusiasm made worship come alive for us all. I only wish I had remembered my camera…

Governors have been working hard in the last couple of weeks with meetings for all Committees, our Full Governing Body meeting plus a super training session with Tamsin Austoni, our Hampshire Leading Learning Partner. We are delighted to report we received a £10k grant from HCC to support Covid work, which has helped the Resources Committee to stop a deficit for Bentley. Governors would like to thank Tracy Tewkesbury, our Finance Officer, for her tremendous work in watching the pennies over the last twelve months, reporting and analysing the finances at this difficult time when we have lost about £30k of expected income.

In the classes this week;

Year R have been practising the ‘Big Bear Hunt’ piece playing the glockenspiels

Year 1 were AMAZED by a wonderful sped up film clip of the Life Cycle of a Sunflower in Science – lots of awe and wonder!

Year 2 have been enjoying their ukulele music lessons (see videos on Seesaw) and had a super Moon Buggy making DT afternoon

Year 3 worked like a Roman legion to think about the battle techniques of the Roman Invaders (you can see their Seesaw photos)

Year 4 wrote absolutely brilliant Flanimal descriptions (posted on Seesaw)

Year 5 have thoroughly enjoyed their Activities week from Calshot to skiing to lip sync battles today! Wow! They have learnt so much about one another, supported each other and grown in confidence and resilience. Miss Wiggins says “Well done Team!”

Year 6 have created wonderful environmental sculptures in art. They also enjoyed their rather gory Science lesson…ask them what they tasted!

I hope that you all have a restful weekend to balance this high-energy week and get ready for the next week ahead!

Mrs Katy Pinchess, Headteacher

Leaving School Independently

Please may we remind parents of Junior children, if you have arranged to meet your child near the school and are running late, to contact the school office by 3pm to enable us to get the message to your child before they leave at 3.15pm.  Whilst children are reminded to come back into school if their parent/carer is not where they were expected to be, it can be distressing for the children if no-one is there to collect them.  Thank you.

PTFA family Photoshoot

We are delighted to welcome back MiniClicks Photography on Saturday 22nd May to take your lovely family shots in a mini shoot.

You can book your mini shoot for a £10 fee and MiniClicks will give you access to a secure area on their website to select and buy your pictures.  Prints start at £6 and full resolution downloads are £20 per photo.

MiniClicks Photography is a local business, run by Bentley CE Primary School parents Helen & Elliott Forrester, who are donating their time for free and all the profit from sales for this event, along with the booking fees, will go to the PTFA.

Helen says “We offer a relaxed and friendly service, specialising in indoor and outdoor family portraits, and baby photography. We are delighted to be supporting Bentley School with this fundraiser. Please don't hesitate to get in touch to discuss your photography needs.”

The shoot will be conducted in the Sports Hall, with social distancing in mind.  Our PTFA website is experiencing technical difficulties at present with payments so we ask you to book your slot on the site – www.pta-events.co.uk/bentley - and we will contact you regarding payment of the £10 booking fee shortly afterwards.
