Everyone slept well again after a fun evening singing songs and eating marshmallows around the campfire.

Lunch was a giant hotdog and fries which was perfect fuel for an afternoon spent running around in the woods playing laser tag. We played lots of different team games and enjoyed the challenges our instructors gave us. We even had Mr Metters join in!

We are all really looking forward to our final evening activity of the week – the campfire! We have been practising our campfire songs all week in preparation!!

Tomorrow, we have a final morning of activities and look forward to telling you all about it when we see you at 12.30 p.m.

Everyone slept well on their second night at the Gordon Brown Centre after an action-packed day and a busy evening playing some team games. After another good breakfast, we set off for our morning activities, but first spent some time with the animals.

Day 2

After a hearty breakfast of cereal and toast we set off to the archery range where we refined our arrow firing skills, building on what we learned last year. After that we completed the blindfold trail where we learned communication is very important, especially when your partner can’t see anything!!

At lunchtime, we met up with Year 3 who had just arrived for their Gordon Brown adventure. We all enjoyed our lunch of fish fingers and chips before a little bit of free time, playing some games and stroking the animals.

This afternoon, our Bentley value of courage was really tested as we made our way up the very high climbing wall, finished off by a 10m drop from the top!! Don’t worry - we all had a harness and helmets on. Our teachers were very proud of us for doing it!

This evening we are looking forward to playing some games and watching a movie before settling down to another good night’s sleep. We certainly need it after all of today’s adventures!

For our evening activity, we enjoyed a sunset walk where we left the site. We saw a red kite and a heron before reaching a World War 2 bunker.

We were all excited last night and woke up raring to go!!!

Our Gordon Brown adventure has begun, and we are all loving our first afternoon of activities! After settling into our rooms, we ate a delicious lunch of sausage and mash and then headed out on a tour of the site to get reacquainted with the animals and lonely Larry.

The children are loving their new sleeping arrangements for the next few days too!

After lunch we tackled the low rope course and the trim trail. Everyone was very brave and there was only a little bit of wobbling along the ropes!!

We have also done some den building with the best team not getting wet from the water gun!

Tonight, we are looking forward to our first evening meal of pizza and waffles before practising our communication skills as we guide each other around the blindfold trail during our evening activity. We will definitely be ready for a good night’s sleep in our comfy beds after a very busy first day!

We are getting very excited about our visit to the Gordon Brown Centre next week!

Here are some final reminders for you:

Arrival for Year 4 – Tuesday 5th May between 11.30 a.m. and 12 p.m. Please do not arrive earlier than this as staff will be busy getting everything ready for the children’s arrival. You may stay to help your child set up their bed and organise their belongings. After that you will need to leave the site.

Please be mindful of children moving around the site when arriving and departing in your car.

Please ensure your child has everything on the KIT list. It is a good idea for you and your child to pack their bag together. That way your child knows what they have brought with them and where it is. It is very helpful if all items (including underwear) are named as items often end up in the wrong child’s bag at the end of the visit! Please ensure your child has a warm, waterproof coat with a hood as well as a sun hat and sunscreen. We need to be prepared for all weathers!

Children must bring at least two pairs of trousers, even if it is warm. This is because the children will take part in lots of climbing activities and long trousers must be worn for this. It is also to help prevent children being bitten by ticks when we are working in areas of long grass.
