Learning Support Assistant (LSA) in the Reception (EYFS) Class

Salary Details: Grade B–C depending on experience, equates to £16,038-£17,344 pro rata (FTE £20,812-£22,215)

Hours of Work: 5 days per week, 32.5 hours a week 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. term time only

Job/Person Summary

We are looking for a Learning Support Assistant to work in our Reception (EYFS) class within our inclusive, successful village primary school.  Previous experience of working in the Early Years Foundation Stage is desirable but not essential.

Although this position is initially a one year contract it has the potential to become a permanent role.  Ideally we are looking for a person who can work Monday to Friday.  However, there may be some flexibility and part-time applicants may be considered.  Please state clearly in your covering letter with your application if you wish to be considered on a part time basis.

  • Will work alongside our Year R teacher to create a cohesive learning environment, supporting and extending learning in the Early Years Foundation Stage
  • Is committed to an inclusive environment, adapting plans and approaches to meet the differing needs of children and bring out the best in them
  • Has a calm, positive and nurturing approach and is able to work independently and show initiative
  • Can support the class teacher in making ongoing assessments of the children
  • Knows and is interested in how children learn
  • Has knowledge of phonics (although training can be given)
  • Knows the importance of keeping children safe
  • Has high expectations for themselves and their pupils
  • Will support effective lunch and playtime cover as a Lunchtime Supervisory Assistant within this role

Desirable skills and experience;

  • An understanding of how primary schools work (systems/policies/experience)
  • Relevant qualifications and training e.g. a degree qualification, childcare qualifications or specific learning support programmes within a school or childcare setting
  • Experience working with children in a school or nursery environment
  • A passion for the importance of play based learning

Essential;

  • Empathy with pupils needs
  • A love for Early Years learning
  • Excellent literacy and numeracy skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Flexible, quick thinking and child centred
  • A team player with excellent people skills
