After-School Childcare Assistant

Salary Details: Grade B to C (£9.79 - £10.52 per hour, equates to £6,717-£7,216 pa) depending on experience

Hours of Work: Five days a week, 13.75 hours a week 3.15pm to 6.00pm term time only

We are looking for a kind and capable childcare assistant to work in our popular After School Club every afternoon in term time at our inclusive, successful, and caring village school. You will be a confident, creative person who loves working with children, and is able to support individual child needs within the wraparound childcare provision.

Ideally we are looking for a person who can work Monday to Friday. However, there may be some flexibility to have an additional person for two or three days only (please state which days you are available very clearly in a covering letter with your application if you cannot take this on 5 days a week). Although this position is initially a one-year contract it has the potential to becoming a permanent role.

We need you:

  • To have relevant previous experience working with children or as a volunteer
  • To understand the needs of children, families and a busy school
  • To be a team player who can be flexible and creative enough to cope with the changing demands of the school year
  • To bring your interests into the setting to enthuse children (cookery, sports, arts and crafts etc.)
  • To have good standards in numeracy and literacy
  • To be passionate about education
  • To have an up-to-date understanding of safeguarding needs


  • A child/school specific qualification - such as Play Leader, Learning Support or SEND qualifications
  • Previous experience working with children – such as in a school, volunteer at Brownies/Cubs etc., Sunday School, as a Childminder etc.
  • Special talents or interests to share with the children e.g. cookery, arts and crafts, sports etc.
