This week at Bentley...

A huge thank you for your generous donations to the Alton Food Bank at last Thursday’s Harvest celebration. I was so disappointed to miss it, but I’ve heard that the children were absolutely amazing – speaking their lines beautifully and singing with real gusto!

I am also delighted to share that I awarded three ‘Agents of Change’ badges last week. Two girls from Year 6 noticed that our Zones of Regulation display in the hall could be even better, and worked together to design a new poster for everyone to use. The third badge went to a Year 3 pupil who, while taking part in a litter pick at the recreation ground, spotted a small fire and used her water bottle to extinguish it – what a sensible and thoughtful response! Well done to all three children for seeing a change and making a difference. I can’t wait to see who else might receive a badge in the coming weeks.

Hopefully you’ve all managed to sign up for a parents’ evening slot. These meetings are a valuable opportunity to hear how your child has settled into their class, talk about their attitude to learning, and take a look at some of their wonderful work.

This week, we were thrilled to hold our first musical performances for parents! It was such a wonderful idea from Mrs Blake, our music lead, to welcome parents into school to enjoy the children performing songs they have been learning as part of the music curriculum.

Years 3, 4, 5, and 6 performed four brilliant songs that had everyone tapping their toes. Years 5 and 6 also performed two songs that they’ve been practising for Young Voices at the O2 in January – I, for one, cannot wait to see them perform there!

A huge thank you to all parents who have returned their data collection forms. The ladies in the office have turned this into a house challenge! The house that returns the most forms the fastest will earn house points, so parents, you can help your child’s house team – let’s see who wins!

Meanwhile, Year 2 enjoyed an exciting trip to Fort Nelson as part of their history topic. This was the first time Bentley children have visited, and after Miss Bonwitt’s risk assessment visit, she knew it would be a fantastic day – and it certainly was!

Wishing you all a lovely weekend,

Vicky Hallett

Headteacher

SAFEGUARDING – PLEASE READ!

As part of our safeguarding responsibilities we have a duty to account for the whereabouts of all children each day. That is why it is vital that you please phone the office on each day of absence due to illness, between 8.15am and 8.45am. It is also essential that when a child has an unavoidable planned absence (for example for a hospital appointment) that the absence is requested through the form on our website.

Attendance rules have recently changed – please see the poster below for more details.

ATTENDANCE

Governors have set the attendance target for the school at 97%. The class with the best attendance last week was Year 2 again. Well done Year 2!

DATA COLLECTION FORMS

Data collection forms were sent home with all children last week. If you haven’t already, please check, amend (where necessary) and sign them and return to the school office by Monday 20th October. ALL forms need to be returned and signed, even if there are no changes to be made. The house who returns all theirs most quickly will earn lots of extra housepoints!

SECONDARY SCHOOL APPLICATIONS

The deadline for applying for a secondary school place for current Year 6 children is 31st October. To apply for a Year 7 place for your child please follow this link:   is https://www.hants.gov.uk/educationandlearning/admissions

YEAR 2 TRIP TO FORT NELSON

Year 2 went off to Fort Nelson this week to learn more about Florence Nightingale and what she achieved in her life. We had a wonderful time meeting Florence herself and experiencing what things were like for the soldiers during the Crimean War. We learnt that Florence was very influential in making changes to hospitals, in particular ensuring hygienic conditions. Thank you to our parent volunteers who accompanied us and made the trip possible.

Parent and Governor Eco Workshop – Monday 20th October @ 9am

Our school is passionate about looking after our planet so that future generations can enjoy it.  We would like to share this with you at our first Eco Workshop for Bentley parents and governors. The session will be run by our sustainability lead, Madame Jones, with help from some members of Eco Council.  Together they will share what we are doing as a school to equip our school community with the knowledge and skills to face the challenges of climate change.
