As Headteacher, it fills me with immense pride when I receive feedback about how wonderfully our children represent Bentley when they are out at school events. The way they live out our school values and follow our rules beyond the school gates truly speaks volumes.
A special shout-out must go to our Year 3 children, whose behaviour during their first couple of weeks of swimming lessons has been absolutely wonderful. Swimming can be a time of heightened excitement, but the children approached it with maturity, respect and enthusiasm — a real credit to themselves and to our school.
I would also like to congratulate our fantastic Eco Representatives, who excelled at the ACAN Conference last week. They represented Bentley with confidence, knowledge and passion. Alongside this, our Year 2 children impressed everyone on their visit to the Titanic Museum, showing such curiosity and inquisitiveness as they explored and asked thoughtful questions.
Well done to all of our children who continue to represent Bentley so positively — we couldn’t be prouder of you.
I would also like to share my heartfelt thanks to Madame Jones. We are incredibly lucky to have someone so passionate about our planet and about educating the next generation. The fact that we have so many eco-aware children at Bentley is a true reflection of her dedication and hard work. Thank you, Madame Jones.
Break the Rules Day has been such fun! It has certainly been a day full of excitement, with children loving the chance to share all the creative ways they chose to break the rules. Wearing my own clothes definitely had my vote this morning too! I also heard all about a very special snack that I had never even heard of before — and one child very generously insisted that I try one – thank you Bobbi. Such kindness really sums up the spirit of the day. From alien suits and crazy hairstyles to special snacks, it’s safe to say a great day has been had by all. I can’t wait to let you know how much has been raised.
Thank you to our amazing PTFA team for organising such a fun and memorable event.
Have a wonderful weekend.

CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services) plays a key role in safeguarding by supporting children and young people’s mental health and helping schools and families respond appropriately when concerns about wellbeing or safety arise.
Hampshire CAMHS have released new short films — scan the QR code to learn more about strategies to support ADHD, sleep, and emotionally based school avoidance. Useful for parents/carers and professionals.

Well done to those children who were awarded a gold card or were in the Gold Book. We’re very proud of you!

Well done to all the children who took part in the Arithmagicians competition this week. A huge congratulations to Year 6, who were crowned our overall champions!
Special congratulations also go to our top three players across the school, who received a snazzy certificate in collective worship: Holly (Y6), Dottie (Y3) and Robin (Y2).
A brand-new two-week competition launches today and will run until the end of half term (7pm on Sunday 22nd February). Don’t forget to spend your points in the shop on house points, extra playtime or even a hot chocolate with Mrs Blake — all of which can be redeemed straight after half term.
Good luck to everyone!
Next Thursday, 12th February, there will be a special menu at lunchtime, pizza and pancakes! The red option will be barbeque chicken pizza, green will be cheese and tomato pizza, both with pancake and fruit for dessert.
A reminder that for safeguarding reasons children being dropped early for Breakfast Club should be taken to the Rainbow room and signed in with an adult please, rather than just dropped at the gate. Thank you.
Year 2 enjoyed an exciting and informative visit to the Titanic Museum. Our knowledgeable guide shared fascinating facts and stories, helping the children to really bring the history of the Titanic to life. During a discovery session, the children had the rare opportunity to handle real artefacts from the time of the Titanic, making the experience both memorable and meaningful.
We would also like to say a big thank you to Mr Goddard and Mr Robinson for volunteering their time to support us on the trip.
We are so lucky at Bentley to have the use of two minibuses which we can use when we go on school trips, which helps us to keep costs as low as possible. We are looking for new minibus drivers to ensure we can get full use out of the minibuses; grandparents can apply too. The school would pay for the training. If you are interested then please email the office.
Unfortunately the second-hand uniform shed is currently out of action. We will update you when it is reopened.
Eco Council
It has been an exciting time for some members of our school’s Eco Council.
Hampshire Climate Unity Virtual Conference
Last Wednesday, Year 5 and 6 members of Eco Council participated in the Hampshire Climate Unity Virtual Conference along with 100s of other pupils from Hampshire schools. The agenda for the morning’s event was varied and exciting, ranging from conservation of painted dogs in Africa to learning about the world’s most sustainable football club and seahorses in the Solent. The children who were lucky to attend were inspired by conservationists and environmentalists as well as fellow school eco warriors and have a long list of ideas ready for their next Eco Council meeting!
Young ACAN Schools’ Eco Conference – Eating for our Planet

On Friday, Eco Council’s Team Food attended the Young ACAN (Alton Climate Action Network) Schools Eco Conference, ‘Eating for our Planet’ at Alton College. Together with 13 other schools from the local area, the children from Years 1 to Year 6 participated in a range of workshops about sustainable and healthy food including making smoothies with the Smoothie Bike Company; seasonal food; food waste; permaculture in Gumbi, Africa and learning about milk production with Milk Club. The children were really enthused by the event and are now getting ready to lead a whole-school food day later in the month to share their knowledge with their peers, with the aim of reducing food waste at lunchtime and raising the value of food.
Forest Explorers – Urgent Appeal for Waterproofs!
“There is no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothes!”
To help our children enjoy Forest Explorers in all weathers, we urgently need some more donations of waterproof coats and trousers please. Please bring them into the school office – thank you in advance! We don’t need any wellies as we now have enough – thank you for all the donations last year!
