This week at Bentley...

As we head into an exciting weekend, I wanted to take the opportunity to celebrate some of the wonderful things that have been happening across the school this week.

Mrs Rhodes took a group of children to an athletics competition this week, and they represented Bentley brilliantly. Not only did they perform well in their events, but they also demonstrated excellent sportsmanship, cheering on both their teammates and children from other schools. Mrs Rhodes commented on the enthusiasm, determination and resilience shown by every child throughout the day. A particular highlight was that every child improved their long jump score from their initial attempt – a fantastic achievement and a wonderful example of perseverance paying off.

I would also like to thank Mr Williams, who has worked incredibly hard this year to ensure our children have had the opportunity to participate in as many sporting events as possible. These experiences provide invaluable opportunities for children to develop confidence, teamwork and a love of physical activity.

Year R have had a particularly exciting week! The children enjoyed a fantastic trip to Marwell Zoo, where they behaved impeccably and represented the school beautifully. They saw a wide range of animals and thoroughly enjoyed bringing their learning to life through this memorable experience. Although there were certainly some tired legs by the end of the day, it was well worth it! Thank you to all of the staff and volunteers who helped make the trip possible.

The excitement didn't stop there. Back in the Year R classroom, one of the duckling eggs began to hatch on Wednesday. The appearance of a small hole in the shell created great anticipation as the children could hear the cheeping becoming louder and louder. Since then, the excitement has continued to grow, and we are delighted to share that we now have three ducklings! The children have proudly named them Marwell, Bocketts and Bentley. Watching the ducklings emerge has provided a wonderful learning opportunity and created lots of excitement across the school.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Mrs Thurman, who has been working incredibly hard to spruce up the Sports Hall toilets, she has also secured grants and funding opportunities for the school. Thank you, Mrs Thurman, for your continued dedication and support for our school community.

Year 1 also enjoyed a wonderful visit to Bocketts Farm this week. The children loved meeting and learning about a variety of farm animals and had the opportunity to explore the farm and take part in a range of hands-on activities. They demonstrated excellent behaviour, curiosity and enthusiasm throughout the day and were a real credit to our school. Thank you to the staff and volunteers who supported this fantastic learning experience.

Finally, we are incredibly excited about BFest tomorrow. So many members of our school community—children, staff, parents, carers and volunteers—have put an enormous amount of time, effort and enthusiasm into making the event a success. I know it is going to be a fantastic day for everyone involved.

When I think about BFest, I see our school values of Love, Courage and Community shining through in everything that has gone into making it happen. From those performing on stage, to those organising stalls, helping behind the scenes or simply coming along to support, it truly reflects what makes Bentley such a special place.

Thank you for your continued support. I look forward to seeing many of you tomorrow for what promises to be a wonderful celebration of our school community.

Have a lovely weekend.

SAFEGUARDING

The UK Health Security Agency have issued an amber heat health alert, valid until 23:59 23 June.

Please take care and take sensible precautions to keep children safe from exposure to sun and from heat exhaustion.

Below is what to do should a child suffer from heat illness. The following steps to reduce body temperature should be taken immediately:

• Move the child to as cool a room as possible and encourage them to drink cool water (such as water from a cold tap)

• Cool the child as rapidly as possible, using whatever methods you can. For example, sponge or spray the child with cool (25 to 30°C) water; if available place cold packs around the neck and armpits, or wrap the child in a cool, wet sheet and assist cooling with a fan.

• Dial 999 to request an ambulance if the child (or person) doesn't respond to the above treatment within 30 minutes.

• If a child loses consciousness, or has a seizure, place the child in the recovery position, call 999 immediately and follow the steps above until medical assistance arrives.

ECO-COUNCIL TRIP TO WWF HEADQUARTERS

Eco-council had a very exciting trip to the WWF headquarters last Friday. Here is a thank you letter written by Eleanor, Amelie and Orla.

“Our trip to WWF was an amazing learning experience for all of us. We all had a fantastic time! Our top 2 favourite things were: The spinning panda money boxes from all across the world, the large conference room where we all spoke about different things. We also enjoyed the main office where there was even a tree planted by Sir David Attenborough himself. We had a fun tour where we found out lots of cool stuff like DID YOU KNOW a baby oyster is called a spat? We are very grateful for this great experience. Hope to see you again soon”

ECO UPDATE

Hidden Treasure Hunt – a national recycling challenge

Great news!  You now have until 6th July to recycle your unwanted tech!  Please hunt out unwanted or broken tech and electrical items at home and recycle them at Curry’s or at Farnham and Alton Recycling Centres – click here for more details.  Please note, if you are NOT dropping off your items at Currys, please take a photo when you recycle them to upload as evidence – you will be asked to upload this photo when you register – click here to register and scroll down to ‘How to register your recycling’.

Every time a family registers their recycling, our school earns a Planet Care Point and moves up the national leaderboard. Schools can win thousands of pounds in Currys’ vouchers for Microsoft tech, and families who take part are entered into prize draws to win Currys’ vouchers for Microsoft tech too. As an extra incentive Eco Council will be awarding a ‘Dolphin Award’ to those children who participate.  Pupils should bring in a photo of them recycling their tech at Curry’s or a recycling centre.  Please note only one dolphin will be awarded per child.

Please do get involved and share with your friends and family to help us to win some Microsoft tech for our school. The campaign runs until 6th July 2026.
