This week at Bentley...
It has been busy week first full week back at Bentley!
This week, we held a productive meeting with our PTFA to discuss all the exciting fundraising opportunities planned for the year ahead. A huge thank you to everyone who gives up their time to support the school through the PTFA—we are incredibly grateful.
The PTFA AGM will take place online at 7.00pm on Thursday 24 September. We hope to appoint our new Chairs, share details of future events and discuss what we will be raising money for this year. Everyone is welcome to join us!
It has also been wonderful to welcome our new Year R children into school. We have all been so impressed with how well they have settled into the classroom. They are already becoming familiar with the routines, listening carefully and enjoying getting to know their new classmates. We are very proud of them all!
Our external clubs started this week, with staff-led clubs beginning the week of 21st September. Hopefully you have all now received a text letting you know which clubs your child will be able to attend this term. It never ceases to amaze me how many different clubs and opportunities we are able to offer our children. A huge thank you to our staff for generously giving their time to run them and, of course, to Mrs Hamid for organising everything.
Finally, thank you to everyone who has attended one of our Meet the Teacher sessions so far. We hope you have found them informative and that they have given you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have. If you are unable to attend, please do not worry, as the slides will be shared with all parents.

SAFEGUARDING
Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs) are responsible for overseeing and coordinating safeguarding and child protection within school. At Bentley we have Mrs Hallett, Mrs Rhodes and Mrs Blake who are all trained DSLs.

Governors have set the attendance target for the school at 97%. The class with the best attendance this week were Year 5! Well done Year 5!

MEET THE TEACHER
This is a great opportunity to chat to your child’s new teacher, learn about what the school day will look like in their new class and get information about the curriculum, homework and reading expectations. You will also be able to ask any questions you might have about the year ahead.

BREAKFAST CLUB ARRANGEMENTS
A reminder that Breakfast Club opens at 7.45am. Unfortunately we do not have the staff available to admit children before this time. When dropping your child off at Breakfast Club, please ensure that you sign your children in with Miss Smith and Mrs Walker, rather than just bringing them to the gate. Thank you for your cooperation and for helping us keep all children safe.
LUNCHBOXES
Please ensure that your child’s lunchbox is clearly named. We have noticed that lots of lunchbox designs are very popular, and several lunchboxes are not named.
To ensure that all the children eat their own food, and to avoid any potential mix-ups which may lead to severe allergic reactions, please clearly name lunchboxes. Thank you for your support.
SUMMER READING CHALLENGE
The summer reading challenge, Read to the Beat, comes to an end on Saturday 12th September and Alton Library have been in touch to say that lots of children from Bentley have taken part this year. If your child has taken part, make sure you head to the library as soon as possible on completion so your child can collect their medal and certificate, as we will be celebrating the reading challenge in Collective Worship on Friday 18th September.
GARDENING TEAM – VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Each Friday afternoon, the Gardening Team help the Year 1s look after the Courtyard Garden. They learn how to plant bulbs and grow seeds along with activities inspired by nature and the seasons. The children love the opportunity to learn outside the classroom in a very hands-on way.
We would love some more volunteers to join our small team so this important experience can continue. You don't have to commit to every week and no gardening experience is needed, just enthusiasm. If you would like to know more, contact the Office who will put you in touch with the Gardening Team.
ALTON HERITAGE DAY
Alton is having its second Heritage Day on Saturday 12th September between 10.00 and 3.00 in the Assembly Rooms.
The national theme this year is 'Everyday Histories' and local groups will have tables where they will be able to share their history. There will be local resources that visitors can browse, people who will try and answer any queries and the Quakers and Freemasons will also have their venues open for people to visit.
The event is free although any donations will be gratefully accepted for Dementia-friendly Alton who are hosting this Heritage Day event in the historic Assembly Rooms.

Hampshire music service are hosting two open sessions this September:

PTFA
Please join the PTFA to welcome the new year R at our welcome picnic on the rec. There will be an ice cream sale on the playground before families can make their way to the rec for some fun, games and picnics with their old and new friends. Open to all year groups the more the merrier!
