This week at Bentley...

It’s been a quieter week here at Bentley, with our Year 3 and 4 children off on their exciting residential at the Gordon Brown Centre. We've thoroughly enjoyed reading their blog updates and seeing what they’ve been up to. A big thank you to the staff for persevering with the patchy signal to keep us informed – it’s been much appreciated. I’m sure you're all looking forward to having them home again – we certainly are, and we can't wait to hear all about their adventures first-hand next week.
A heartfelt thank you also goes to the staff who have given up their own evenings and time with family and friends to make the trip possible. Residentials like this simply wouldn’t happen without your dedication – thank you.
Next week brings SATs for our Year 6 pupils. I am incredibly proud of how calmly and sensibly they’ve approached the lead-up to the tests. We know they will all give it their very best. As a small reward for their efforts, they’ll be treated to a bacon or sausage roll each morning – lucky them (and slightly torturous for the rest of us!)
It’s also been lovely to hear continued chatter about last week’s colour run. Everyone had such a great time, and I’m delighted to share that we raised an amazing £1800! Thank you so much to everyone who donated and to our brilliant PTFA for organising such a vibrant and joyful event – it’s definitely earned a place in Bentley’s fundraising calendar for the future.
I’ve had a few enquiries about the progress of the recreation ground. I know the Bentley Archers recently posted on the village Facebook page that they are still hopeful of meeting the planned completion date. However, we are also exploring alternative locations for Sports Day, just in case. It’s not ideal, but we’re determined to make sure a Bentley Sports Day still goes ahead – it’s such an important part of our school year. We’ll keep you updated as soon as we know more.

SAFEGUARDING – EVERYBODY’S BUSINESS
This half term, we were pleased to welcome our Local Authority Lead Professional (LLP), who worked alongside Mrs Hallett to review safeguarding at Bentley. She was very impressed with the strong culture of safeguarding across the school and how it is embedded in all aspects of school life. We were proud to demonstrate how safeguarding is woven through the curriculum in every year group, ensuring that our children are supported, informed, and safe in all areas of their learning.
TT ROCKSTARS!
Congratulations to Year 6 who won the TTRS competition last week.
From this evening, a new house competition will be live for children to compete in. This will continue until Tuesday 20th May and the results will be announced with house points awarded to the winning house on National Numeracy Day on Wednesday 21st May. Good luck everyone!
MENU CHANGE
Next week the lunch choices will be swapping on Wednesday and Thursday, so the lunch choices on Wednesday will be Quorn pieces in Yorkshire pudding (G) or sliced beef and Yorkshire pudding (R). On Thursday the choices will be cheese and tomato pizza (G) or bubble salmon and wedges (R).
YEAR R NEXT WEEK
Next week, Monday to Thursday, please could Year R enter school in the mornings through the front door, not the usual side gate. Many thanks.
PARENT GOVERNOR
BOPPIN SHOW
We are very proud of all the children who took part in ‘The House On The Hill’ show with Boppin at the weekend. We hope you enjoyed performing as much as the audience enjoyed watching!
ECO UPDATE
Pollinator Garden
Work on our Bentley Pollinator Garden has begun with small teams of the children with the winning garden designs along with Eco Council working each week on a different aspect of the garden from planting fruit trees, wildflowers and herbs to creating homes for wildlife including bug hotels and a small pond. The children have been at the heart of decision-making every step of the way, teaching and empowering them to take action for nature. They are also learning how to work with nature too as the garden is already home to many plant species loved by pollinators which we are incorporating into our evolving plan. Watch this space for more updates and please do get in touch via the school office if you would like to get involved!
PTFA
Wow! What a brilliant and colourful event the colour run turned out to be! Thank you to all the children for being such great sports. And to all our volunteers - we couldn’t have done it without you!
Please bring in the remaining sponsorship over the next week. The gofundme page is looking amazing! 🤩 I’ll hope to have a total raised soon. Ideally, deadline for cash sponsorship is this coming Friday please.
Frozen Fridays (our ice lolly sales after school on Fridays) are starting soon! With the first one on the 16th May.
23rd May is PJ Day - come into school in your PJs if you’d like to. £1 to take part.
Looking ahead to our two remaining big events of the year - the Sponsored Bike Ride and our Summer Party.
Sponsored bike ride, Saturday 14th June - 25km, family friendly route and pace, organised by Trent Kneller. The ride is to start and finish at Bentley School, ending with a BBQ and refreshments. We plan to leave around 9am, and be back in time for lunch.
Please email bentleyschoolptfa@gmail.com if you’d like to join.
Summer Party, Saturday 5th July, 12-4pm. Add this date to your diaries for a fun, music filled afternoon! With music from Key Lime Pi - a 9 piece band performing at Bentley School! A BBQ, bar, inflatables and stalls will be available all afternoon.
If you’re happy to have a Hampton’s sign advertising the event, please let me know! They generously sponsor us, so I need to provide them with a list of names. 🙂
