Asking the children in assembly, they unanimously raved about the fun of the snow on Wednesday!  I think it surprised a lot of us adults, who are very used to snow forecasts not being for us ‘down South’. By Thursday, after the rain had washed the snow away, it all felt like a dream!

Thank you to everyone for the amazing efforts with our super World Book Day on Monday. We really love reading at Bentley and this annual event is a special celebration of all things ‘book’. The children clearly enjoyed the book swaps, online author meets and the dressing up and I think from all the parent smiles that you did too! A big thank you to the Forresters for the super photos they took to mark the event. The photo links have been emailed to parents, so you may purchase them if you wish. Funds raised benefit the PTFA.

Dear parents, carers and friends of the school,

Thank you for all your support and interest in my visit to our link school in The Gambia. The children have been so keen to hear all about it and to know how their fellow pupils are doing. I was able to share lots of news and pictures in our assemblies this week (please see attachment below),

A big thank you to all the child shoppers today who helped us to raise £160 towards Gambian community projects. I am so excited about visiting Sitahuma again at half-term. My suitcase is filling up fast with lovely books, pencils and sports donations, collected by our school community for our Gambian friends. I know the money will be so well spent and I can’t wait to report back all the news to our Bentley children, who have been so inspired by this special friendship with children across the globe.

Dear parents, carers and friends of the school,

It does feel as though it has been January for longer than a month already! We have had very cold days, rainy days and grey days, so the Gambia charity hot chocolate was very much appreciated yesterday.  We raised an amazing £289.80. Thank you so much for your support…that will buy an awful lot of school lunches for our friends in Sitahuma!

What a chilly January week it has been and I have not been alone in wearing many layers and my big winter coat! Thank you for ensuring your child is well wrapped up. Please make sure that all gloves, scarves. etc. are NAMED so that we can return them when they are mislaid. The Lost Property is all on the table by the gate, for grown-ups to check and collect at home time. Please look to see if anything belongs to your family and relabel it before it comes back into school again.

Dear parents, carers and friends of the school,

Happy New Year and welcome back to school 2023!  I hope you all had a good Christmas even if you were fighting off one (or several) of the nasty bugs that were around.  It has been lovely to welcome all the children back to school this week and hear their stories of their Christmas activities and family gatherings; it sounds as though lots of fun was had by many!

It has been a chilly week, where defrosting the car has become a new pass time for many of us! It has felt as though the weather has matched the Christmassy mood in school and the children have had a brilliant time, despite all the seasonal bugs going around. We have a few poorly pupils and members of staff and we wish them all a speedy recovery for Christmas. Our advice is to keep up your vitamins and hand-washing to try and fend off the bugs! Do refer to the NHS advice we have shared with you if you are concerned about any symptoms.

Thank you for all the lovely comments to say what a brilliant event the PTFA Christmas Fair was last Friday. There was a great range of pocket money activities for children, amazing Christmas shopping opportunities and delicious things to eat and drink. A big thank you to everyone who volunteered and supported this fun event. An extra big thank you to our PTFA Chairs; Sarah C, Sarah F, Molly and all their families, for all the hard work and organisation they put into making this happen.

Between the festive ‘Jingles Bells’ played by choir, decorations going up and the rehearsals underway for the two school performances, we are starting to feel very Christmassy in school this week! Thank you for all your support at home with costumes, lines being learnt and with keeping bedtimes and reading going smoothly throughout.
