The weeks really are whizzing by!  I can’t believe it’s Friday again already with only one more week to go before half-term!  There has been more great learning in each class this week and lots of opportunities for the children to take their learning outdoors or off site.

It has been a very musical and sporty week here in school!

On Monday, Year 5 and Year 6 travelled to the O2 arena in London to take part in Young Voices 2024!  This is an amazing, once in a lifetime opportunity for our children to come together to sing with thousands of other children from across the country and is an event which will be remembered for a very long time.   See the article below written by Darcy in Year 6 to find out more information.  Taking the children to a big event like this takes a lot of organisation.  A huge thank you must go to Mrs Blake for coordinating the event which not only included supporting the children to learn the songs but purchasing tickets and t-shirts, booking the coach, organising seating plans and writing the risk assessments too!  A big thank you must also go to all the staff who supported the children at the event – Mrs Rhodes, Mrs Patey, Mrs Ashby, Mrs Hansen and Miss Grainger.  We hope you have a well-earned rest over the weekend as it was a very late night!

Thank you to everyone who has volunteered to help in school following the request in our newsletter last week.  We are really looking forward to welcoming you in to support our children, especially with their reading development.  If you are interested and haven’t yet been in touch, we still have times available across the school if you would like to help out.  Just contact the office to let us know!

Happy New Year and welcome back to school 2024!  I hope you all had an enjoyable Christmas and spent time doing all the things you love to do.  It has been lovely to welcome all the children back to school this week and hear their stories of their Christmas activities and family gatherings; it sounds as though lots of fun was had!  Thank you very much for all the lovely gifts that you gave to the staff at the end of last term.  Your generosity was very much appreciated by each and every one of us.

What a fantastic final week of term it has been for us here at Bentley!  We have been entertained by Years 3, 4 and 5’s brilliant performances of No One Wraps Like an Elf; eaten a delicious Christmas dinner with all the trimmings whilst wearing our Christmas jumpers; had fun in our classrooms doing some Christmas themed activities as part of our learning and finally, Year R and Year 6 led us in a very special worship this morning at St Mary’s church, reminding us of the true meaning of the Christmas season.  A huge well done to all the children for working so hard this week, in amongst all the excitement and late nights.

It has been a very busy week in school with lots of festive events to get us all excited in the lead up to the big day!  The Christmas Fair last Friday was fantastic and a great way to start our festivities.  The choir opened the Fair with some brilliant singing, there were lots of tasty Christmas goodies to eat and drink and brilliant games to play, coordinated by the PTFA reps and Year 6.  A big thank you must go to everyone involved for all the hard work and organisation that went into making this event so much fun.  An extra special thank you goes to our PTFA Chairs: Molly, Sarah F and Sarah C, for organising the Fair.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in school, with the Christmas decorations up, final rehearsals and costumes being tried on for our two plays, and lots of carol singing in preparation for our church service at St. Mary’s at the end of term.  Thank you for all your support so far with costumes and learning lines.

We have all been enjoying our non-school uniform today in exchange for a donation towards the Christmas Fair raffle.  There have been so many lovely donations that the prizes are going to be fantastic – thank you.

It is certainly beginning to feel very festive in school with the preparations starting for all things Christmassy!  Here is a reminder of what’s coming up in the next few weeks.

Last week’s Bonfire Night was a brilliant evening; the fireworks were fantastic and the rain stayed away so we could all enjoy the bonfire.  A huge thank you must go to all the Parish team involved: to Mr Turk for his super fireworks display; to the PTFA who organised the event; to those of you who chopped onions, made toffee apples, set up the stalls, sold the food, drink and goodies and to those who helped tidy everything away at the end.  We really do appreciate all the support you give, as without it, these amazing events would be unable to go ahead.

It has certainly been a very wet and windy start to the second half of the autumn term and yesterday’s reappearance of the large playground puddle provided much excitement and curiosity amongst the children!  Let’s hope the weather is kind to us this evening for our eagerly anticipated bonfire night celebrations.
