  • This week at Bentley...

Welcome back! I hope you all had a lovely half term and managed to spend some time together doing something you enjoy.

I had a really lovely week myself — I went camping (surprisingly, it wasn’t that cold!) and also spent a few days in Devon, where I may have spent far too long on the 2p slot machines!

This week, Miss Hastie organised our first inter-house competition, which was a fantastic success. In their house teams, the children were challenged to design and build the tallest tower, a car, and the strongest bridge. It was wonderful to see children from different year groups working so well together, and so many adults commented on their teamwork, creativity, and enthusiasm.

We were especially proud of our Year 6 pupil leaders, who supported the younger children so thoughtfully and helped make the day run smoothly. A big well done to Tutu, who earned the most points during the morning and proudly won the cup!

A huge thank you to Miss Hastie for organising such a fun first event, and to all of the adults who helped make the morning so enjoyable for the children.

I am also delighted to share that baby Vogel arrived into the world on Monday 27th October, weighing 7lb 9oz. Everyone is doing really well, and Marta is the proudest big sister to her baby brother Jensen. Huge congratulations to the whole family on their wonderful new arrival!

We are also incredibly proud of Madame Jones, who this week was invited to lead two workshops at the Hampshire Primary Modern Foreign Languages Conference. We are certain that many teachers learnt a great deal from her passion, knowledge, and enthusiasm – we know our children at Bentley are very lucky to have her!

Finally, thank you to all the children who have volunteered to take part in the Bentley Fireworks Parade this evening. I’m really looking forward to seeing everyone there and am keeping my fingers (and toes!) crossed that the weather is kind to us. It would be wonderful to see as many of you as possible at the Bentley Fireworks Show tonight.

    Have a lovely weekend,

    ECO UPDATE

Team Energy - Switch Off Fortnight

This week Team Energy officially launched their campaign Switch off Fortnight with an informative assembly to the children in Year 1-6.  Starting on Monday, the aim of Switch Off Fortnight is to teach the children why we need to be saving energy and simple ways we can do that both at home and school.  As part of this week’s Eco Lesson, the children in Years 1-6 have all written a pledge which they hopefully brought home to share.  The pledges include switching off lights, putting on jumpers when it is cold and not leaving devices on standby. For more tips, click here.  If you are interested in finding out if your home could be made more energy efficient, why not get in touch with Energy Alton – click here to find out more about their free surveys!

    Calling all Crafters and Makers!

Young ACAN is asking for your help! On Friday 21st November Young ACAN will host a stall at the Alton Christmas Lights Switch On.  The aim is to raise funds through donations for some GOOD QUALITY recycled/natural Christmas crafts - wrapping paper, cards and decorations.  This is an ideal activity that families can get involved in.  The items need to be good quality - we don't want to be left with a box of things that people don't want! There are lots of great ideas online. Please bring your items into school by Wednesday 19th November and Madame Jones will collect them. Thank you so much!
