  • This week at Bentley...

What a wonderful day of sunshine we enjoyed on Wednesday! It certainly gave us all hope that more springtime weather is just around the corner. The brighter days really do lift everyone’s spirits.

I hope many of you are looking forward to the quiz evening tonight. A huge thank you to Mrs Blake for all of her hard work in writing the quiz questions – we are very grateful for the time and effort she has put in to make it such a fantastic event. Sadly, I am unable to attend this evening, but I cannot wait to hear who takes the winning title… and of course, who ends up with the wooden spoon! Good luck to everyone taking part!

Year 2 absolutely wowed us this week with their impressive knowledge from their learning about the Titanic. They spoke with such confidence and enthusiasm – we were all incredibly proud of them. Well done, Year 2!

Earlier this week, Mrs Proud took a group of Year 5 and 6 children to a Dodgeball competition at Amery Hill. The children represented our school exceptionally well and demonstrated wonderful sportsmanship throughout the event. We are delighted to share that the team finished third overall – a fantastic achievement. Well done to all involved!

Thank you to Madam Jones, who organised a whole school ‘Food Day’ on Wednesday, where children focused on lots of different aspects around food and where it is from. Lots of fun was had, from sampling different products to working out how far something has travelled from.

It was also a real pleasure in Celebration Worship today to recognise children’s achievements in gymnastics outside of school. I always love hearing about what the children accomplish beyond the school gates, so please do continue to send in any achievements we can celebrate together.

    Have a lovely weekend.

    SAFEGUARDING

Steps to take to help your child stay safe online:

    • Have continual discussions with your children. Continue discussing their favourite websites, games, and apps, as well as their likes and dislikes and any online safety concerns. Discuss with them when to unfollow, block or report anything suspicious.

    • Remind your child that if anything happens online that worries or upsets them, they can always talk to you or another trusted adult. Assure them that they won't get into any

trouble because you are there to assist them.

    • Useful online safety websites for parents:

    • National Online Safety – safety guides on ALL aspects of internet use

    ARITHMAGICIANS

Congratulations to all the pupils who took part in this year’s Arithmagicians competition — what a fantastic effort from everyone involved!

A special well done to Year 4, who were crowned the winning class, followed by Year 6 in second place and Year 2 in third. Brilliant teamwork and determination all round!

Don’t forget to keep playing Arithmagicians this week for another chance to earn points. These can be exchanged for exciting rewards, including extra playtime and a hot chocolate treat with Mrs Blake. Keep practising and good luck!

    SPRINGBOKS GYMNASTICS COMPETITION

Congratulations to those children who took part in the recent gymnastics competition. Our Bentley children did incredibly well, and we are very proud! Special congratulations to Poppy (Year 1) who came 3rd, and Chloe (Year 5) who came 1st in their competitions.

    Bentley litter pickers

Over the half term Charlie, Annabella, Harry and Freddie gave up some of their free time to go on a litter pick around Bentley. They were sad to see how some people drop litter and treat the environment so badly. Well done – what a great way to demonstrate our school values and to help the local community!

    WORLD BOOK DAY

World Book Day will be celebrated in school on Friday 6th March.  Please see the separate email sent by Mrs Miffling about some exciting events for the day, a competition and a reading challenge. We can’t wait to see everyone’s constumes!

    ROAD SAFETY POSTER COMPETITION

With the Spring term here, the Hampshire Road Safety Team are launching the annual Walk to School Week poster competition. For this, they are asking for children to design a bright, eye-catching and informative poster on crossing the road safely.

The winning entry for this poster competition will be shared across all schools who register for Walk to School Week and will be used for any pedestrian safety campaigns.

If your child would like to take part, they should return their poster to school by Thursday 19th March.

    CATERLINK POSTER COMPETITION

We’re excited to announce another fantastic poster competition! Caterlink need help to design some vibrant foodie wall art for Caterlink.

They are inviting pupils from schools that use Caterlink to let their imaginations run wild and create an A4 page of colourful, foodie-inspired landscapes. Think broccoli trees, baguette fences, or even carrot chimneys – the more creative, the better!

    What’s in it for you?

    • Winning artwork will feature in Caterlink’s primary marketing.
    • The winning school will receive a completed art wall, or £200 for the school, and a £20 book voucher for the pupil whose design wins.

    How to enter:

    • Artwork can be posted to Caterlink Competition, Hop House, Lower Green Road, Pembury, Kent, TN2 4HS or scanned and emailed to info@caterlinkltd.co.uk. (please keep the original artwork as this may be needed if you are selected a winner)
    • Ensure you include the pupils name, age and school on the back of the artwork, or as the title of the picture file. They will also require the full school’s name, address, and contact so that we can contact winning entries.
    • Entries must be received by 5pm on 31st March 2026.
    • Winning entries will be notified by the end of May 2026.

Caterlink can’t wait to see the amazing ideas your children come up with!

We have been given a special code for discounted places at Barracuda’s holiday clubs for Bentley pupils, and if you book we will also receive a donation to the school! Please use the code on the flyer to benefit from this offer.

    UNIFORM SHED

Unfortunately the second-hand uniform shed is currently out of action. We will update you when it is reopened. In the meantime, second hand uniform is currently in the back of the dining hall. Please ask the office for access before or after school (as this space is used for teaching and learning at other times).

    ECO UPDATE

    Eating for our Planet Day

On Wednesday Eco Council’s ‘Team Food’ did a great job at leading a special assembly called Eating for Our Planet as part of our Young ACAN Food Day.  The assembly linked with the conference which the children attended in January and which you can find out more about by watching the official film here.  Throughout the day children in Years 1-6 learnt about how to eat more healthily for themselves and the planet. There were a range of food-related activities on offer for the children including plant-milk tasting and exploring seasonal food.  However, all the children learned how to make a healthy, plastic-free lunchbox. Year R will be focusing on Food next week and in the coming weeks there will be more opportunities for the children to learn about healthy eating.

Here are a few ways you can reduce plastic in your child’s lunchbox:

    1. Choose a lunchbox with different compartments.
    2. Avoid buying multipacks of food such as breadsticks or crisps – choose larger packs instead and decant into a lunchbox or box.
    3. Choose fresh fruit rather than packaged fruit bars and bags.
    4. Use a refill shop for lunchbox goodies such as dried fruits. Visit Fill Up in Alton or for doorstep delivery, order via Milk Club - https://shop.milk.club/fillup-groceries
    5. Use aluminium foil, paper or a reusable box instead of clingfilm.  Aluminium foil and paper are both recyclable.

    Poetry Competition

Calling all Poets!  Young ACAN has an exciting competition for all the children to enter for a chance to win some fabulous prizes!  See poster for details – closing date is Friday 17th April!
