A huge thank you must go to the staff who have been supporting the children at Calshot, as well as those who have been working with the remaining children in school. Your dedication and care are very much appreciated.

Yesterday marked World Kidney Day in school with a very special collective worship led by Isabelle in Year 6. Isabelle spoke to the whole school about the important job our kidneys do, how we can look after them, and the personal journey she has been on with her kidney transplant. She shared her story with such courage, clarity and maturity that both the children and adults in the hall were incredibly proud of her. It was a powerful moment for our school community – not only learning about the importance of kidney health, but also celebrating Isabelle’s resilience and the confidence she showed in sharing her experience so articulately with us all.

Mrs Williams kicked off Science Week by setting the school two experiments to complete. One experiment explored whether having larger hands meant that more cubes could be collected, while the other challenge investigated how long each team could stretch a Curly Wurly chocolate bar! Thank you to Mrs Williams for organising such fun and engaging ways for us to practise our science skills.

It was also lovely to welcome Mrs Vogel (who is currently on maternity leave) and baby Jenson for a visit. Many of the children will have seen them around school during the day. Baby Jenson is such a smiley, happy baby and we all enjoyed a few cuddles. We look forward to welcoming Mrs Vogel back to school in October.

I have also had the pleasure of teaching in Year 2 and Year 3 this week. The children really impressed me with their knowledge and their positive attitudes to learning across the subjects we covered.

SAFEGUARDING

Parking Safely Around School

The safety of our children is always our highest priority. We ask all parents and carers to park considerately around the school site, particularly at drop-off and collection times. Please avoid parking on zig-zag lines, blocking driveways, or stopping close to crossings and junctions, as this can make it difficult for children and families to see oncoming traffic. If possible, please park a little further away from the school and walk the final part of your journey. Thank you for helping us keep everyone in our school community safe.

TEDDY BEARS'S PICNIC

Year 3 had a wonderful trip to the Gordon Brown Centre for a Teddy Bears’ Picnic. The children enjoyed sensory walks through the woods, built dens together, and took part in teamwork activities. It was a fantastic day of outdoor learning, exploration, and fun with their teddy bears. 

 

TASTER DAY

On Monday 23rd March we will be holding a taster day session at the end of the school day. We would love as many parents and carers as possible to come along with their children  at 3.15 to taste some of the recipes that will be on the new menu for the summer term. It all sounds delicious and we hope to see lots of you there.

 

 

 

 

 

 

4:12 YOUTH GROUP

We have been made aware of an error in the recent Parish magazine. The church run youth group, 4:12, will be running in the school hall on 13^th March. The final meeting of the term will be held in the church hall at St Mary’s, Bentley on 27^th March.

ROAD SAFETY POSTER COMPETITION

With the Spring term here, the Hampshire Road Safety Team are launching the annual Walk to School Week poster competition. For this, they are asking for children to design a bright, eye-catching and informative poster on crossing the road safely.

The winning entry for this poster competition will be shared across all schools who register for Walk to School Week and will be used for any pedestrian safety campaigns.

If your child would like to take part, they should return their poster to school by Thursday 19^th March.

CATERLINK POSTER COMPETITION

We’re excited to announce another fantastic poster competition! Caterlink need help to design some vibrant foodie wall art for Caterlink.

They are inviting pupils from schools that use Caterlink to let their imaginations run wild and create an A4 page of colourful, foodie-inspired landscapes. Think broccoli trees, baguette fences, or even carrot chimneys – the more creative, the better!

What’s in it for you?

• Winning artwork will feature in Caterlink’s primary marketing.
• The winning school will receive a completed art wall, or £200 for the school, and a £20 book voucher for the pupil whose design wins.

How to enter:

• Artwork can be posted to Caterlink Competition, Hop House, Lower Green Road, Pembury, Kent, TN2 4HS or scanned and emailed to info@caterlinkltd.co.uk. (please keep the original artwork as this may be needed if you are selected a winner)
• Ensure you include the pupils name, age and school on the back of the artwork, or as the title of the picture file. They will also require the full school’s name, address, and contact so that we can contact winning entries.
• Entries must be received by 5pm on 31^st March 2026.
• Winning entries will be notified by the end of May 2026.

NORTH 2 SOUTH Easter holiday camp

Bookings are now open for the half term camp run by Mrs Proud (North2South Kids’ Camps). Children should bring their own packed lunch (no nuts please) and a water bottle.

UNIFORM SHED           

Unfortunately the second-hand uniform shed is currently out of action. We will update you when it is reopened. In the meantime, second hand uniform is currently in the back of the dining hall. Please ask the office for access before or after school (as this space is used for teaching and learning at other times).

ECO UPDATE

Team Energy launches Hidden Treasure Hunt – a national recycling challenge
This week Team Energy launched a very exciting new campaign called The Hidden Treasure Hunt, a nationwide campaign helping children and families to recycle unwanted electrical items responsibly, while competing to win tech for schools.

The campaign teaches pupils that old electricals aren’t rubbish – they contain valuable materials that can be reused if recycled properly. Families are encouraged to hunt out unwanted or broken tech and electrical items at home and recycle them at Currys stores or local drop-off points across the UK – click here to find out where.

Every time a family registers their recycling, our school earns a Planet Care Point and moves up the national leaderboard. Schools can win thousands of pounds in Currys’ vouchers for Microsoft tech, and families who take part are entered into prize draws to win Currys’ vouchers for Microsoft tech too.

The campaign runs until Friday 5 June 2026.
