This week, we have been thinking about Harvest and giving thanks for all the people who work hard to grow, gather and bring food to our tables. It has been a wonderful opportunity to reflect on how fortunate we are, how we can help others and our responsibility to avoid wasting food.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Harvest celebrations this morning. Each class shared a wonderful way of giving thanks, and it was lovely to come together as a school community. Thank you also for your generous donations, which Mr Lucas delivered to the food bank earlier today. Your kindness will make a difference to local families and is a lovely example of our Bentley values of Love and Community in action.
Thank you also to Phil Bagg and Miss Hastie for organising the Internet Safety workshop yesterday evening. It was good to see some parents joined online. If you were unable to join the meeting we will be sending out a link to the recording next week.
Next Friday, 16 October, is our school Quiz Night, with Mr Williams as quizmaster! The PTFA has shared that a good number of you have already bought tickets, and we would love to see as many of you there as possible. It promises to be a fun evening and a great opportunity to spend time together while supporting our school. Thank you to the PTFA for organising the event and to Mr Williams for preparing the quiz.
Regular attendance helps children feel connected to school, supports their learning and wellbeing, and is an important part of keeping them safe. You should have received a letter this week outlining our attendance expectations, including the requirement to provide evidence for appointments that take place during the school day. Please read this carefully and contact the school office if you are unsure about any aspect or need clarification. Thank you for working with us to support your child’s attendance.
Governors have set the attendance target for the school at 97%. The class with the best attendance this week were Year 3, with 100%! Well done Year 3!
Attendance figures for each class for this week are below:

On Thursday we acknowledged and celebrated Mental Health Day. It was a fantastic day full of strategies and tools to help children learn how to manage big feelings and regulate themselves when they were feeling uncomfortable. We looked at Zones of Regulation and the emotions that come with them, helping us identify what we can do in school to feel better, return to a calmer state, ready to learn and be safe.
The day showed us that the children are brilliant body detectives, understanding what clues their bodies show them when they are in certain zones and provided everyone a chance to
discuss certain situations and scenarios that offered them opportunities to use their ‘calming toolkits’.
Thank you to Mrs Hansen for running special Pilates sessions for all the children.
Miss Smith and Mrs Chouler set up some colourful chalks outside so that the children could fill the playground with happiness!

This morning four Year 6’s went to Amery Hill for a maths challenge. Once we got there we went into the room we spent our morning in, we went on to the first round. It was really hard but at the end we got a24 points out of a maximum of 50 points. Then we went into the second round and final the last round which was a maths relay. After that we got out results. We came 2nd out of 8 groups! – Alec
I enjoyed it, It wasn’t too competitive, but still competitive. It was great how the pupil supervising you encourages your team. There was such a variety of questions. The snacks and refreshments were lovely. – Frankie
Congratulations to the whole team for their fantastic achievement, earning medals for 2nd place overall. Thank you to Miss Miles for accompanying the team.
Annual Flu Vaccination Programme
All children are eligible to receive the flu vaccine. Parents and carers are sent a link to the online consent form between September and November, ahead of the school vaccination session. The vaccine is usually given as a nasal spray. For children who cannot have the nasal spray due to medical or religious reasons, a porcine-free injectable vaccine is available. Details about how to request this are included on the electronic consent form.
Why should I get my child vaccinated? Flu is a highly infectious illness that children can catch and spread easily. For many children, flu can be very unpleasant and may lead to complications such as ear infections, bronchitis, or pneumonia. In some cases, it can result in serious illness requiring hospital treatment. Vaccinating your child not only helps protect them from flu but also reduces the spread of the virus to others who may be more vulnerable to serious illness, including babies, pregnant women, older adults, and those with long-term health conditions.
What if my child misses their school vaccination session? If you provide consent for your child to receive the flu vaccine and they are absent on the day of the school session, you will automatically receive an email inviting you to book an appointment at a local community clinic, ensuring your child still has the opportunity to be vaccinated.
It's not too late to complete the consent form. Even if your child's school vaccination session has already taken place, submitting a form now will allow you to book an appointment at a local community clinic.
