This week at Bentley...

I’ve realised recently that I talk about the weather a lot in these weekly updates—but this time, it’s for good reason! All that weather-watching has finally paid off, and I’m delighted to let you know that after a very positive meeting with Archers Cricket Club, the rec will be ready for Sports Day!

This means we’ll be able to go ahead with our usual running order (no pun intended... well, maybe just a little!). The plan for the day will be:

  • Morning: Sports Day events at the rec
  • Lunchtime: Family picnic on the field (fingers crossed for sunshine!)
  • Afternoon: You’re welcome to take your child(ren) home after the picnic

Of course, school will remain open for the rest of the day for any children who need to stay with us.

Yesterday, we sadly said goodbye to our beloved school guinea pigs. As a community, we’ve taken time to reflect on the joy and comfort they have brought to children and families over the years. Many children tied ribbons to their cage, each with a personal prayer or thought, as a way to say farewell. We’ve also received some very kind and thoughtful messages from parents, which we truly appreciate.

It was wonderful to welcome our new EYFS starters for their first visit last week. When I popped in to say hello, they all looked very settled—happily playing and exploring their new surroundings. We’re already looking forward to their next visit and getting to know them better as they begin their journey with us.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend!

ALTON SCHOOLS CRICKET FESTIVAL

On Tuesday 10th and Thursday 12th June, two enthusiastic teams from Years 4, 5, and 6 represented Bentley School at the Alton Schools Cricket Festival.  Both teams displayed exceptional sportsmanship, embodying our core values of love, courage and community and showed great teamwork, respect, and perseverance throughout the tournament.  While we didn't reach the finals this year, our teams secured commendable positions—third place in the mixed tournament on Tuesday and fourth place in the girls’ tournament on Thursday.  A big thank you goes to Mr. Lucas and Sara Wood for transporting the teams to and from the event in the minibus and to Richard and Bash from Alton Cricket Club for organising the event.
