Gabriella - Amos and The Hyphix

In the town of Bernuda lived a terrible threat leaving them without the fish they could eat from the sea. At first it wasn’t too bad, it was okay to fish and the seas weren’t stormy but as the beast grew older things became harder. The seas became rough, very rough. For many years it was trapped in a distant sea temple far from the land so that everyone was safe but it was older, stronger. Everyone knew. The Hyphix was on the loose…

About two years since the news spread across the town and it was then isolated for the time. Amos had enough he missed his friend who lived beyond the town’s border so he decided he would be the hero of his town let everyone be free not trapped in the mostly flooded town some even without family. He thought, from a young age, Athens was a good place but it obviously was not at times. He said goodbye and finally left after a series of pleads for him to stay he set of to the edge of the town were the land meets the sea a good two hours it would take by foot.

He was there at the edge of the deserted town an hour trip it would now take. He waded in the water it was up to his knees and the buildings around him were wrecked. I should have left earlier he thought the sunset was casting over the town so he took refuge in one of the not so destroyed buildings carefully hanging his backpack up on a lone peg. A bright light awoke him too bright to be the early morning sun.  When he adjusted to the light it was the goddess Athena he was shocked and surprised as gods and goddesses didn’t usually visit mortals. “You will never kill the Hyphix, it’s a water based beast you will drown trying to kill it”. “But how an earth am I meant to do it if the gods won’t do it”, Amos wailed. She smiled, a cunning smile “Not if I can’t help”. She handed Amos a glass bottle full of a blue liquid and a odd weapon with a fork on the end.  “I have given you the Essence of the Sea a powerful liquid which will let you breathe underwater for twenty-four hours. The trident however is the only weapon to kill the beast.”  After she left Amos and he carried on with his journey.

The Sea Temple was now in view it was mesmerising with its pale-blue but powerful glow and its greeny-blue colour. Moving forward holding his trident protectively, I have got to kill the Hyphix he thought. Now even closer he could see it. The beast. The Hyphix. He was doing everything to stop him screaming it was huge with majestic scales of greens and blues changing in the light a head with tassels. “Kill it in its sleep”, he quietly whispered but the words suddenly echoed around him and to his absolute horror the beast opened its eyes. It squirmed to life jeopardizing his life! He had to face his fear and overcome the beast but opening his eyes was a bad idea the Hyphix was already out of his resting place opening its giant mouth to reveal sparkling white teeth almost as if it wouldn’t eat him. Ready to throw his trident at the Hyphix but before lurching at Amos it crumbled pieces of unbreakable rock that was nearby to dust! No he thought throwing the trident at the beast’s mouth would be the end of him so he tried swimming underneath the monster most of its belly was covered with a hard shell to protect it but near the neck was a gap. Big enough for his trident so he dodged it three times before attacking it made this horrible squealing noise before falling dead on the sandy ground below. He couldn’t believe what he had accomplished now his town would be free after some repairs everything would be normal again.

After traveling home he broke the news and it was a happy, free place again he was a hero.
