MAISIE AND CAMERON’S MATHS REASONING

Text Box: Do, then explain
Find out the populations in five European countries.
Order the populations in ascending sizes.
Explain how you ordered the countries and their populations.

France: 67,431,000

Italy: 60,494,118

Explanation

France is the bigger number because even though tens of millions digit is the same, the millions column is a seven which is bigger than zero.

UK: 66,480,220

Greece: 10,816,286

Poland: 38,611,020

Explanation

The UK has the largest population because out of them all, the tens of millions column has a bigger digit (six).

The second biggest is Poland and we know this because the tens of millions column again has a bigger number. So if the numbers are going in ascending order (which means getting bigger) this is the order they would be in:

Greece

Poland

Italy

UK

France
