this week at Bentley...

We were so disappointed to receive the news that we will not be able to host our Sports Day on the recreation ground this year. However, Mrs Miffling has worked out a new plan to make sure that Bentley Sports Day will still be a fun and competitive event for everyone to enjoy. A letter will be sent out today with all the information.
A huge thank you to all the members of our school community who reached out with ideas and offers of support with alternative venues —we are so grateful. With just a week to go and many other events happening during this very busy time of year, we feel that using our own site is the most practical solution.
Today, the children had their transition sessions and spent time with their new teachers in their new classrooms. It was lovely to see the excitement and enthusiasm across the school. We were also delighted to welcome Mr Williams, who will be our new Year 5 teacher in September—he had a brilliant first day with the class! Our new Year R children spent some time in the classroom without their parents today, and we are incredibly proud of how confidently they all settled in.
This Saturday is the Bentley Summer Party! Our amazing PTFA have been working incredibly hard behind the scenes to make sure it will be a fantastic event. A special shout-out to our Year 6 pupils who have designed and prepared stalls for everyone to enjoy. Mr Metters is already bracing himself for the wet sponge and water pistol stall—he’s even signed up for a double shift!
I really hope to see as many of you as possible on Saturday. It promises to be a great day of fun for all the family—and every penny raised will go directly towards supporting our school.
Have a great weekend,
Mrs Hallett

ATTENDANCE
Governors have set the attendance target for the school at 97%. The class with the best attendance was Year 6. Well done year 6!
Attendance figures for each class for last week are below:
SAFEGUARDING – EVERYBODY’S BUSINESS
Safeguarding Through the Curriculum
At Bentley, safeguarding is embedded across our curriculum and school life. Recently, we’ve been talking with the children about the importance of having a voice in school. From the School Council to Subject Ambassadors, pupils are given meaningful opportunities to share their thoughts and help shape their school experience. Through PSHE, collective worship, and class discussions, we also help children identify their safe and trusted adults in school and remind them that they can talk to any adult if they ever have a worry or problem. Our aim is to ensure every child feels safe, heard, and supported.
THANK YOU…
… to Vicky Soden for the donations of science activities, toys and games and fabulous dressing up clothes. Your generosity is very much appreciated.
BOCKETTS FARM TRIP
Year 1 had a fantastic day at Bocketts farm. We got to pet and feed the different animals, as well as having a tractor ride! We got to see how the animals live and learn more about how they act with each other and people.
It was so much fun!
MENU CHANGES NEXT WEEK
Next week the menu will be slightly different to the usual week 3 menu, as follows:
Monday 7th – Macaroni cheese (G) or chicken curry (R)
Tuesday 8th – Plant based sausage (G) or chicken nuggets (R)
Wednesday 9th – Cheese and tomato pizza (G) or bubble salmon (R)
Thursday 10th – Plant based sausage (G) or sliced pork (R)
Friday 11th – picnic lunch (cheese roll). Please ensure you have ordered by Sunday 6th July if you wish to order this for your child.
YEAR R FUNFAIR
This week, Year R organised a marvellous funfair of games for Year 1 to play. They used their mathematical skills to create rules and scoring methods and then to record the scores of their customers. They worked fantastically in teams to plan their game, decide how to build it, paint eye-catching signs and make certificates for the winners. Well done Year R.
YEAR 5 AT AMERY HILL
Year 5 had a taster day at Amery Hill this week. They all had a fantastic time and enjoyed a day of exciting lessons, including making clay tiles in art and playing team games in P.E.
FRENCH DAY – WEDNESDAY 9th JULY
This year’s French Day has been inspired by the fabulous Jim Field bilingual book ‘Monsieur Roscoe on Holiday’ with ‘Les Vacances’ (the holidays) as our theme for 2025! As always, the children are invited to dress up in red, white and blue to represent the colours of the French flag. In addition, there will be the popular Year 6 Croissant Kiosk at breaktime as well as class games of Pétanque and a special French lesson from Mrs Nonhebel. Madame Jones will deliver a holiday-themed French lesson to every class and the children will participate in a range of related activities throughout the day with their class teacher.
NORTH 2 SOUTH SUMMER CAMP
During the summer holidays (4th-6th August) Kathleen Proud and Sarah Forbes are running a holiday club here at school. Please see the poster below for more details.

ECO-UPDATE
Eco Council Stall
Our fantastic Eco Council is hosting a stall at the upcoming PTFA Summer Fair on Saturday 5th July between 12 and 3pm. As well as our popular Saving Nemo game, there will be a chance to buy one of Mrs Scott-Bromley’s crochet bees! In addition, thanks to your donations of second-hand summer stuff, we should hopefully have a range of items on sale so please do come along and help us raise money for our pollinator garden.
Nature Guardians Club
Next year Madame Jones will be training the next generation of Nature Guardians in a special after-school club. The club will take place on a Monday after-school and using the National Education Nature Park resources, we will continue our journey of wildling our school grounds. Spaces will be very limited and interested children have been asked to write Madame Jones a letter to say why they should be chosen to be a Nature Guardian by Wednesday 9th July.
Big Bentley Switch Off
This week’s heatwave has been a great reminder about the importance of reducing our energy consumption and it has been great to see the children thinking more about not wasting electricity this week. We have another week to go so why not continue the challenge at home and see the difference you can make to your electricity bill?
PTFA
We will be selling refreshments (tea, coffee, cold drinks) and ice creams at Sports Day. Cash or card accepted. Please come and find us!
The last Frozen Friday is Friday 18th July. 🍦
