This week at Bentley...

It has been a great start to the school year and we have been so impressed with how our children are settling back into school routines again. Well done and keep it up everyone!

We have really enjoyed the changes without the Government prescribed ‘bubbles’. Being able to come back altogether again in Collective Worships as a school has been really special and it is lovely to see all the adults properly without face masks outside at long last! We are still reviewing our Risk Assessment and Contingency Plans after staff consultation and will get that out to you as soon as possible. As ever, please consult the NHS websites if anyone in the household has Covid symptoms to ensure you are following the very latest guidance.

I hope to see many of you in person at our PTFA Welcome BBQ event next Friday. We work in close partnership between home and school to run these events and all the family is welcome to come along. There will be delicious food and drinks to enjoy for an after work Friday treat! It is always a great way to start the year and have a chat with friends and say hello to staff. Staff are leading at this event in volunteering but we would really like a couple more volunteers on the BBQ and with our clean up team at the end of the night so please let us know if you can help by emailing the school office.

Our teachers are keen to show you the classrooms, say hello and share plans and routines for the year, at our ‘Meet the Teacher Zooms’ next week.

Tuesday 7th Year 1 at 4pm, Year 6 at 4.30pm

Thursday 9th Year 3 at 4pm, Year 4 at 4.30pm and Year 5 at 5pm

We will send out the Zoom links next week. Year R staff have really appreciated the home visits and can’t wait to meet the children at school for their special Induction sessions next week. Year 2 will have a Meet the Teacher Zoom once Mrs Vogel is back in school. Slides will be sent out the day after each session, if it is impossible to attend on this occasion.

Have a really great weekend everyone - it's not too late to take part in the Hampshire Libraries Summer Reading Challenge - register by clicking here!

Donations for Afghan Refugees

Hampshire County Council is seeking donations for recently arrived Afghan refugees. There is a collection in Fleet next week being coordinated by local charity Hart Voluntary Action and a Year 1 parent is planning to take donations there on Tuesday morning. If anyone would like to contribute, there is a list of items at the link below (eg clothes, blankets). Please organise donations in bags for life/holdalls with clear labels for age and gender. They are also asking for shoe boxes for individuals or a family (with crayons, drawing paper, vouchers, toiletry items etc - see link below) which might be something children could help with. Everything is explained at this link: https://www.hartvolaction.org.uk/news/donations-point-for-afghan-evacuees-opening-in-fleet/

Please bring any donations to school on Tuesday morning at drop off and put on the table outside the school sports hall.  Thank you to everyone who has already donated!

The pandemic meant we were unable to run many of our usual events over the last couple of years.  We are hopeful this year’s PTFA events calendar will include many of the favourite events – Bonfire Night, Quiz Night and Bfest – the tentative dates for these and our other events are listed below.

Our first event of the school year is the Welcome BBQ, which is planned for Friday 10th September when we will be delighted to welcome all our families from 4pm to 7pm for BBQ burgers, sausages and veggie burgers.  There will be a bar serving wine, beer, fizz and soft drinks and a children’s refreshments stand serving sweets, biscuits, squash and fruit.

We hope all our families are able to join us for this event – older and younger siblings are very welcome - it would be lovely to see you all.
