This week at Bentley...

I don’t think it could have been more rainy this week! Well done to everyone surviving soggy drops offs and to the staff who have driven through monsoon like weather in the dark to get to and from school. Let’s hope things are going to get dryer next week.

You may be aware that our super Caretaker Mr Lucas is out of action at the moment having had an operation. The staff team are trying hard to cover his workload. We wish him a speedy recovery with lots of love (but also hoping he will be back soon as we miss him hugely!). If there are any parents who can spare half an hour or so we would really appreciate some volunteering with; leaf sweeping, outside bin changes and ‘fixing’ things. Just report to the office and we can find you a job whatever time of day between 7am-6pm when the school is open. Thank you in advance.

In learning this week;

It has been the national ‘Anti-bullying week’ so we have raised awareness in different ways across all classes. Everyone enjoyed wearing odd socks to remind us to celebrate our differences.

Year R have talked about how to manage ‘big emotions’ and what positive choices we can make to be kind

Year 1 impressed Mrs Scott-Bromley with their mindful colouring to create art work for the older people at the local Care homes

Year 2 linked their work to our church value for this term of ‘compassion’. Children have thought about what this means and looks like. They have spotted compassionate behaviours and celebrated them.

Year 3 have learnt strategies to recognise unkind behaviour and then support other children in the playground or in situations playing outside school

Year 4 talked about who we can reach out to when there are difficulties and how to check on others supportively.

Year 5 had a fascinating visit to the Winchester Science Centre to learn more about the solar system – they loved the planetarium

Year 6 have really enjoyed getting stuck into forest explorers over the past two weeks.  They particularly enjoyed creating forest creatures from clay.

A big thank you to everyone who visited the Scholastic book fair. It is always great to have a ‘pop up’ shop to create some Father Christmas lists with lovely books and any purchases made will benefit our school library. Please don’t miss the boat and sign up this weekend for PTFA events coming up…from photoshoots to Christmas tree purchases to the brilliant ‘Christmas Mingle’ for parents to get together socially! A big thank you to Sarah Cordina, Sarah Forbes and Molly Scotton who have been planning and organising these events for our children and families. It is really appreciated PTFA Chair Team – we all think you are doing a great job.

Mrs Pinchess, Headteacher

Sports news

We were delighted by the excellent team work demonstrated by the Year 3 and 4 girls’ football team last week. They came second in the competition. Well done to the whole team, go Bentley!

school uniform

A reminder that correct school uniform is always expected.

Only plain stud ear-rings are allowed in school.

All long hair should be tied back for PE lessons.

Should a child be required to wear non uniform shoes for medical purposes please write a letter for the teacher and provide advice from your medical practitioner or podiatrist. Generally, if children do not have their correct black school shoes we will lend a pair of plimsolls.

Should any families require financial support, we can issue a voucher to help with the cost of new school shoes. We are happy to provide free school uniform where possible. Please see the newsletter last week for more information.

PTFA NEWS

The PTFA elves have been busy! Please see below for what is going on in the last few weeks of term!

RAFFLE TICKETS have been put in the children’s bookbags this week. Please return to the office box at drop off by Wednesday 30th November. Return either your money and stubs or, if you don’t want to purchase tickets, the whole book. The prizes are already looking brilliant! You won’t want to miss out! If you would like extra raffle tickets for yourself or friends or family, please let one of us or a staff member know and we will get them to you.

NON-UNIFORM DAY will be on Tuesday 29th November. This is in return for children bringing something lovely to add to the raffle hampers, e.g. a bottle, pamper product, gourmet treats (in date!), chocolates or sweets. Think about what you or your child would like in a special raffle prize and that would be ideal to send in. Thank you in advance.

SECOND-HAND COSTUME AND CHRISTMAS JUMPER SALE will be on Thursday 24th November (alongside the Year 4 cake sale) at pick up. Before you buy (or make!) a new costume, please come and have a look if we have what you need. Please continue to donate costumes and jumpers by dropping them off at the school gate.

CHRISTMAS FAIR is on Friday 2nd December. We are so excited! Please join us between 3-7pm for craft stalls, food and drink, children’s stalls, music and merriment. There may even be a visit from the big guy himself… Children’s stalls will be running between 3-5pm, and then please stay to enjoy the food and drink available (a few of which include: pizzas from Doe kitchen, burgers from Posh Scoff, mulled wine from a mobile bar and coffees from the Coffee Can!)

Please note that your class reps will be asking you for your help for the class stalls soon. Please volunteer – even if it’s just for 15 minutes – it all helps. We can’t run these events for the children and school community without YOU wonderful people volunteering.

We need donations from ALL classes please! Drop off at school. We need the following:

Teddies and soft toys

Small toys/craft bits/hair bits/toy cars etc. for a lucky dip

Fairy lights

You will need to bring cash for the kids stalls but the external stalls and food/drink should take card.

Please spread the word and invite family, prospective new pupils and their families, neighbours and friends. It’s going to be a brilliant community event and the more the merrier!

XMAS MINGLE at the Hen and Chicken Barn: Sat 10th Dec, 7pm onwards. Tickets are £10, which includes a mince pie and mulled wine (or non-alcoholic alternative).
