this week at Bentley.....

It has been lovely to see the return of the sunshine at last this week and great to see all the children enjoying their playtimes outside, especially in the woods.  Please remember to send your child to school with a named water bottle containing non-flavoured water to keep them hydrated as the weather warms up.

Walk to School week has been a huge success and lots of children have told me how much they have enjoyed journeying just a little bit further to school.  On Wednesday, our Junior Road Safety Officers from Years 5 and 6 taught us all how to keep safe whilst we are out walking, by reminding us of the key message of Stop, Look and Listen from the Green Cross Code.

As well as walking to school, more children have been cycling or scooting which means we now have a lot of bikes being stored in the bike rack.  To keep these bikes extra safe during the school day, we have purchased a bike chain.  Mr Lucas will chain the bikes together at the start of the day and unlock them at the end.  If you do not wish your child’s bike to be included, please let the office know.  Please remind your child to take their bike or scooter home at the end of the day, so they are not left here overnight or over the weekend.

Prayer Week

Next week is Prayer Week at St Mary’s Church.  Each class will visit the church for one hour to take part in the activities.  If you are able to help walk the children to the church and supervise them whilst they are there, please let your child’s class teacher know.

Sports Day

This year, sports day is being held on Friday 9th June and will follow our usual format. It will finish at 12.30pm and we hope that families will be able to join us for a picnic on the rec after the events.  Children will be able to go home after the picnic.  Look out for a letter next week which will give you more details about this annual event.

Thank you to…

The Thurman family for their kind donation of the bee hotel.  Madame Jones is really looking forward to using it in the new nature reserve area that is being developed in the woods.

And also to James Hall, who has very kindly provided the school with a basketball net.

Nature Reserve Update

Nature Reserve Club has been running for four weeks and in that time we have already started to transform the site. The team which includes children, parents and teachers, is proof that team work really is the dream work! So far we have started to create a dead hedge, bug hotel, willow arch and paths.

Apart from finishing off what we have started, next on the list are bird feeders, flowers and hedge planting! Thank you to Mrs Roach, Dr. Garrett and Mrs Elliot for helping as well as to Orla and Benedict’s grandfather for making the beautiful bird box for the nature reserve.
