this week at Bentley.....

I hope you enjoyed reading your child’s annual school report last night and were proud of all they have achieved this year.  The staff have all been incredibly proud of the children’s hard work and the progress they have made, and thank you for your support at home to ensure your child completes their homework on time and commits to reading at least five times a week. Please enter an introduction for your news story here.

Despite being the penultimate week of term, we have still been really busy with our learning in school.  Here are the highlights!

Damian Hinds, MP, visit to the Eco-Council and Nature Reserve Club.

On Friday, 7th July, we were delighted to welcome Damian Hinds, MP for East Hampshire, to our school.  The Nature Reserve Club and Eco-Council gave him a presentation on the work we have been doing to gain our Eco-Schools Award and took him on a tour of our new nature reserve.  I was so proud of how the children represented our school; they were articulate and mature, answering all his questions and asking him some very sensible questions about the government’s sustainability agenda.

Gymnastics Club

The final gymnastics club of the year will be held today (13th).  Mrs Ince reports the gymnasts have all been doing amazingly, improving their skills each week and have been a pleasure to teach.  The children will be showcasing their skills at the Bentley Fete on Saturday 15th July at 3.30 p.m. and would love to have a big audience to demonstrate their skills to!

The Summer Reading Challenge

This year’s summer reading challenge is sports themed and entitled, Ready, Set, Read.  We welcomed Sue from Alton Library on Monday to tell us all about it.  Click on this link to find out more: https://summerreadingchallenge.org.uk/

We love reading at Bentley, so it would be great to have as many children as possible complete the challenge.  We will share certificates and medals in Collective Worship in September.

The Bentley Fete and Flower Show

This weekend is the Bentley Fete and Flower Show at 2 p.m. on the recreation ground.  Mrs Remmington from the Fete Committee visited us in school on Tuesday to tell us all about the fun, games and competitions there will be to enjoy on the day.  Hopefully lots of you have entered the gardening competitions, the sunflower competition and the children’s classes.  Good luck to all our entrants!  The PTFA are running the ice-cream stall so make sure you pop by to buy an ice-cream or two!

French Day

On Wednesday 12th July, Madame Jones led us all in our annual French Day.  The children looked fantastic dressed in red, white and blue and enjoyed a day of French activities which included a French croissant café at breaktime.

Open Afternoon

On Monday 17th July we welcome parents, carers and families to come into school between 2.00-3.15 p.m. to view your child’s work in their classrooms.  Children will have prepared their books with post-it notes to highlight the work they are most proud of this year.  You will be able to take your child’s books home, say thank you to staff and say hello to your child’s new teacher.  We very much look forward to seeing you on Monday!

Have a great weekend everyone and see you on Monday for the final week of the school year.  School finishes for the summer holidays at 3.15 p.m. on Friday, 21st July.

Exciting things in your child’s book bags today…..

Today the children will be coming home with the wristbands/posters they earned from raising money during the circuit challenge with GB Paralympian Kylie Grimes in May. This was an amazing event, the children all got involved and had so much fun. They raised the incredible amount of £2247.02 A huge thank you to every single one of you for all of your generous donations. The monies raised helped fund the day and will go towards buying new sports equipment for our school in the next term.

Also in book bags today, Stikins, a clothing label company, has given each child a set of free, named, labels which can be placed on uniforms, bags and lunch boxes. This will help those unnamed items from becoming lost! If you would like to order any more of these labels, please follow the instructions on the back of the pack or visit the website by clicking on this link Stikins labels  Do make sure you add the school fundraising number found on the back of the pack (1777) as this will generate a commission for the school.
